The College of Chemical Sciences of the Institute of Chemistry organized the annual inter university chemistry debating competition every year. This debating competition was inaugurated by the late Professor J.N.O. Fernando, the former Honorary Rector of the College of Chemical Sciences, Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon in 2007. The debating teams are nominated by the Chemistry Departments of the state universities where the B.Sc special degree in chemistry programmes are conducted along with the College of Chemical Sciences, the educational arm of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.A debate team from the Department of Chemistry participated in this debate competition on behalf of University of Jaffna.

It was held on 14th February 2015. Six universities participated in this competition. The University of Colombo emerged as the champions and the CCS team as placed second, while the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and the University of Peradeniya was placed third.
