Inter-University Debating Competition

The College of Chemical Sciences of the Institute of Chemistry organized the annual inter university chemistry debating competition every year. This debating competition was inaugurated by the late Professor J.N.O. Fernando, the former Honorary Rector of the College of Chemical Sciences, Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon in 2007. The debating teams are nominated by the Chemistry Departments of the state universities where the B.Sc special degree in chemistry programmes are conducted along with the College of Chemical Sciences, the educational arm of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.A debate team from the Department of Chemistry participated in this debate competition on behalf of University of Jaffna.

This year the teams from University of Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Ruhuna and Jaffna and the College of Chemical Sciences were participated. University of Jaffna won the championship for the second consecutive year. This year the teams from University of Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Ruhuna and Jaffna and the College of Chemical Sciences were participated. The Jaffna University became the champions in the second time, whereas the Colombo university was placed second. It was held on 14th February 2015. Six universities participated in this competition. The University of Colombo emerged as the champions and the CCS team as placed second, while the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and the University of Peradeniya was placed third. The Jaffna University became the fourth place.[/cs_image]

Sri Lanka. A debate team of Department of Chemistry participated in this debate competition on behalf of University of Jaffna. University of Jaffna was placed first in the inter university chemistry debating competition. The team of the University of Colombo was placed second while the teams of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura and the College of Chemical Sciences tied for the third place.[/cs_image]
